It is an infection of the bowel that causes diarrhea and some times vomiting. It is very common in young children and is mainly caused by viruses. The patient suffers from pricking like pain, induced due to indigestion.
The viruses can be easily picked up from other people who may have immunity but pass on the infection. Bacteria, usually on contaminated food and often spread by flies, can also cause problem. It has described in texts as epidemic.
The symptoms are as follows:-
1. Diarrhea frequent, loose, watery and greenish.
2. Vomiting-usually early on.
3. Abdominal pain, may be colicky.
4. Crying due to pain, hunger, thirst or nausea.
5. Bleeding; Un-common but some times seen in motions.
6. Fever, some times present.
7. Anal soreness
Problems:
The serious problem is loss of water and minerals such as sodium chloride and potassium. The younger the child, the greater the danger, the main proble is persistent vomiting and diarrhea that might cause dehydration.
The danger signs are:-
1. Restlessness.
2. Difficulty in waking up.
3. Sunken eyes.
4. Very dry skin and tongue.
5. Pallor.
6. Passing scanty or no urine.
Dehydration is dangerous. It must be avoided by giving ORS prepara5tion as much as possible.
Treatment:- The following are the remedies.
Chamomilla:
It should be administered in mother tincture. The child desires to be carried all the times. The motions are greenish, watery, corroding, like chopped eggs. The child screams with pain. As a matter of fact this is the head remedy. May be given 2 drop doses 5-6 times a day in 30, potency.
Magnesia Carb:
Normally diarrhea accurse every three weeks, stool greenish and frothy. Milk passes undigested. The baby smells sour. May be prescribed, 30 potency, 4 times a day at regular intervals.
Rheum:
Difficult dentition, child restless, irritable peevish with pale face, constant profuse sweat on scalp 6 potency.
Phytolacca De:
To be administered 30 potency, 4 times a day particularly during dentition with irresistible desire to bite gums and teeth.
Acetic Acid:
Chronic diarrhea with great emaciation 6th potency
Allium Cepa:
Indigestion, vomiting and flatulence, will pass offensive flatus get 30th potency
